Why choose a Baby lock?

Baby lock made the very first overlocker for home sewers, and it is still the name most sewists think of when it comes to overlocking. Every machine is built around making overlocking easier, faster and more enjoyable.

Jet Air threading. Threading the loopers is the job most people dread on an overlocker. On Baby lock machines with Jet Air, you press a lever and a blast of air carries the thread through each looper in seconds. No tweezers, no frustration.

Automatic Thread Delivery (ATD). Instead of fiddling with tension dials, the machine delivers exactly the right amount of thread for the stitch you choose. You get balanced, professional seams from the first try, on everything from fine jersey to heavy denim.

Built to last. Baby lock machines are known for their solid build and smooth, quiet running, which is why so many of our customers keep theirs for years.

Which Baby lock is right for you?

Overlockers

An overlocker trims, stitches and finishes a seam in one go, giving you a neat, shop bought finish inside your garments and a stretchy seam that won’t snap on knits. The range starts with the Enspire, an easy, approachable overlocker with Jet Air threading, and moves up through the Enlighten and Victory to the Acclaim, which adds more stitch options for keen dressmakers. At the top sits the Serenity, whose RevolutionAir system threads both the loopers and the needles for you.

Coverstitch machines

A coverstitch machine sews the neat double or triple row of stitching you see on the hems of T shirts, leggings and activewear. If you sew a lot of stretch fabrics, it is the finishing touch that makes your makes look professional. The Baby lock Coverstitch is the simple way in, the Euphoria is a larger machine built for serious work with air threading for the looper, and the Primo adds wide coverstitch, chain stitch and decorative variations with ExtraordinAir looper threading.

Overlock and coverstitch in one

If you want to overlock and coverstitch without buying two machines, the Aspire, Ovation and Gloria do both, plus chain stitch. They are ideal if you sew a lot of garments and want one machine for every seam and hem. The Ovation is an eight thread machine with Automatic Thread Delivery, and the Gloria is the flagship of the range.

Frequently asked questions

What’s the difference between an overlocker and a coverstitch machine?

An overlocker joins and finishes seams, trimming the fabric edge as it sews. A coverstitch machine hems, creating the parallel rows of stitching you see on T shirt and activewear hems. Many dressmakers start with an overlocker and add a coverstitch later, or choose a combination machine like the Aspire, Ovation or Gloria that does both.

Are Baby lock overlockers hard to thread?

Not with Jet Air threading. Instead of threading each looper by hand, you press a lever and air blows the thread through for you. It is one of the main reasons people choose Baby lock.

Is a Baby lock good for beginners?

Yes. Jet Air threading and Automatic Thread Delivery take away the two things beginners find hardest on an overlocker: threading and tension. The Enspire is a great place to start, and every new machine comes with a free lesson to get you going.
