The right embroidery machine depends on the size of designs you want to stitch, whether you also want to sew, and how much you plan to embroider. The biggest difference between machines is hoop size, which sets the largest design you can stitch in one go, followed by the number of built in designs, screen size and how easily you can edit and position designs.
Machines like the Brother Innov-is M380 and Brother F540E are a great introduction, with easy to use touchscreens and plenty of built in designs for personalising gifts, clothing and home décor.
If you want one machine for both, combined models such as the Brother F580 and Janome Atelier 9 switch easily between sewing and embroidery. Bernina 5 and 7 Series machines can also add embroidery with the Bernina embroidery module, so you can grow into it.
For bigger designs and more creative control, machines like the Brother Stellaire XE2, Brother Celeste CX1e and Bernina 700E Pro offer larger hoops, bigger screens and advanced editing features.
If you embroider regularly or for a small business, a multi needle machine like the Brother PR680W changes thread colours automatically, saving a huge amount of time. See our full range of semi professional embroidery machines.
At the very top, the Bernina 990 and Brother Aveneer EV1 combine sewing, quilting and embroidery with outstanding space and technology. They are best appreciated in person, so we recommend booking a demonstration.
Embroidery machines are a big investment, so it pays to try before you buy. In our King’s Lynn showroom you can see machines stitch out, compare hoop sizes and screens side by side, and get honest advice from our team. Every new machine comes with a free one to one lesson, and our own workshop is here to look after it for years to come. Find out more about buying from us.
Look for an easy to use touchscreen, a good selection of built in designs and a hoop size that suits the projects you have in mind. Our team can recommend the right model for your budget.
If you mainly embroider names, logos and small motifs, a standard hoop is plenty. For larger designs, quilt blocks or jacket backs, a larger hoop saves you re hooping and gives far more creative freedom.
