If you’ve been embroidering for a while and you’re finding your single needle machine is slowing you down, you’ve probably started looking at multi needle machines. And if you’ve looked at multi needle machines, you’ve almost certainly come across the Brother PR range.
The PR680W is one of the most popular machines we keep on demonstration here at Sewing Machine World, and it’s easy to see why. It sits in a really sweet spot between home embroidery machine and full commercial setup, which makes it ideal for people running small embroidery businesses or serious hobbyists who want to produce professional results at home.
So what makes it special?
The most obvious thing is the six needles. Rather than stopping to change thread every time you want a new colour, you load up to six threads at once and the machine switches between them automatically. If you’re doing any kind of production work, even just a handful of personalised items a week, the time saving is huge.
Speed wise, it reaches up to 1,000 stitches per minute and gets there quickly, so you’re not waiting around. The embroidery area is a generous 200mm x 300mm, which covers most projects you’d realistically want to do.
The crosshair laser is something a lot of customers love once they try it. It projects onto your fabric to show you exactly where the needle will drop, which means positioning is much more accurate, even if your hooping isn’t perfect.
Wireless connectivity means you can send designs straight from your computer to the machine without fussing about with USB sticks, and the 10.1 inch touchscreen makes it genuinely easy to use day to day.
Is it right for you?
The PR680W tends to suit people who are either running or planning to start a small embroidery business, or who embroider a lot and want to do it properly. It’s a significant step up from a standard embroidery machine, but it’s much more accessible than a full industrial setup.
If you’re not sure whether it’s the right machine for your situation, the best thing to do is come in and see it. We always say you should try before you buy, and that’s especially true with a machine at this level.
