One of the best things about owning a Bernina is the accessory system. The presser feet are almost all made from metal, which makes a real difference to how they handle and how long they last. Once you start building a collection, you quickly realise just how much more you can do with your machine.
Here are some of the most popular and useful Bernina feet we stock, broken down by what you sew.
For quilters
If you quilt on your Bernina, the Bernina 50V Three Sole Walking Foot is probably the standout accessory. It feeds the top and bottom layers of fabric through at the same rate, which keeps everything beautifully aligned whether you’re working on a quilt sandwich or a slippery fabric. It comes with three interchangeable soles to suit different tasks and is particularly well suited to machine quilting.
The Bernina 57D Patchwork Foot with Guide is another favourite for quilters. The built-in guide makes it easy to sew a perfectly consistent seam allowance every time, which is exactly what you need when you’re piecing blocks together. It’s designed for 9mm machines with the Bernina Dual Feed system.
If you prefer free motion quilting, the Bernina 24V Free Motion Embroidery Foot gives you the freedom to move the fabric in any direction, making it ideal for stippling, meandering or any free motion work.
For dressmakers
The Bernina 35V Invisible Zipper Foot is one of those feet that makes a tricky job straightforward. If you’ve ever struggled to get a clean invisible zip insertion, this foot takes most of the difficulty out of it.
For clean hems, the Bernina 64V 4mm Straight Stitch Hemmer Foot is really useful, particularly on lightweight fabrics. It rolls and stitches the hem in one pass, saving a lot of time. The Bernina 5V Blindstitch Foot is worth having too if you want a near-invisible hem on trousers or skirts.
The Bernina 8D Jeans Foot is designed to cope with thick seams and heavy denim without the machine struggling or the stitch length becoming uneven.
Our foot of the month: Bernina 12C
This month we’re highlighting the Bernina 12C Bulky Overlock Foot. It’s designed to neaten raw edges using a zigzag or overlock stitch, and handles bulkier fabrics particularly well. If you don’t own an overlocker but want tidy seam finishes, this foot is a really practical alternative.
Worth knowing
