On the sewing side, the standout feature is Curve Sewing, an industry first and a genuine Brother exclusive. As the needle drops, the machine automatically eases off the presser foot pressure so you can rotate the fabric smoothly round a curve, then firms back up as the needle lifts to feed the fabric forward normally. It takes the fiddliness out of appliqué, curved piecing and free motion style shapes, and there are 42 stitches specifically recommended for use with it.
For anyone doing free motion quilting, the BX1 is compatible with Brother’s optional Intelligent Stitch Regulator, which keeps stitch length consistent as you move the fabric by hand, with Continuous, Intermittent and Basting modes to suit different techniques. The External Laser Guideline Marker comes included in the box and projects an adjustable line onto your fabric, brilliant for keeping straight seams and decorative stitching lined up without marking the fabric first.
Switch over to embroidery and you’ve got a generous 20cm x 36cm embroidery area, 774 built in designs and 23 embroidery fonts, including CEE and Nordic character sets. Two Point Positioning with an LED pointer takes the guesswork out of lining up a design, even with less than perfect hooping. Matrix Copy lets you duplicate and align a pattern to your frame size at the touch of a button, ideal for repeated motifs or making the most of a hoop.
New embroidery techniques add a lovely handmade feel to your work too.
